Ingredients:
- 1 lb Kalua Pork
- 1 large Savoy cabbage (or cabbage of choice)
- 4 tablespoons butter or Mahina Mele Farm Organic Macadamia Nut Oil
- 1 tablespoon garlic sauce
Garlic Sauce:
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 clove garlic, finely minced
- 2-3 teaspoons brown sugar
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Cabbage Leaves
Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add a handful of Aloha Spice Alaea Salt. Carefully remove 4-6 of the largest outer cabbage leaves. Blanch the leaves in the boiling water for 1-2 minutes, just until softened and pliable. Remove and let them cool on a chopping board.
2. Assemble the Cabbage Rolls
Divide the kalua pork into 4 equal portions. Take one portion and place it on a cabbage leaf. Roll it up about a quarter of the way, fold in the edges, and continue rolling to form a secure roll. Repeat with the remaining portions.
3. Prepare the Garlic-Shoyu Butter Sauce
Melt butter (or use macadamia nut oil) in a small saucepan. Stir in the garlic sauce mixture and let it warm through for a minute.
4. Cook the Cabbage Rolls
You can choose to either bake or steam the rolls:
- To Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F. Place the cabbage rolls in a baking dish, baste with the garlic-shoyu butter sauce, and bake for 15 minutes.
- To Steam: Place the rolls in a bamboo steamer over the same salted boiling water used for the cabbage. Steam for 15 minutes.
5. Serve and Enjoy!
Serve the Kalua Pork Stuffed Cabbage Rolls with the remaining garlic-shoyu butter sauce and a side of hot rice or locally grown purple sweet potatoes for an authentic taste of Hawaii.
