In Hawai'i we have delicious bananas year round, our favorite is the Apple Banana. They have a slight apple-like scent to them (hence the name) and are super sweet! They make an excellent on the go snack because of their smaller size and firmness hold up well. Apple Bananas are harvested year round with their peak season being from June - October, just in time for Fall Baking!
Kahuku Vanilla Caramel Sauce (made by Kahuku Farms own Vanilla beans grown on their farm) is located on the Island of Oahu, on your way to the North Shore. This decadent treat is absolutely delicious.
Kahuku Farms operates a lovely family yellow roadside cafe with farm tours of their Fourth Generation Farm and offers a delicious farm to table menu with healthy options from fresh salads, smoothies, paninis, and desserts such as their Grilled Banana Bread! So good...
In an effort to recreate their delicious dessert we got into the kitchen to make up our own version of a Grilled Banana Bread and it was worth the effort!
We start with this simple Banana Macadamia Nut Bread recipe:
8 Tbs Butter
1 cup Hula Girl Vanilla Sugar
2 large beaten eggs
1/4 tsp salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/4 cups of All Purpose Flour
1/3 cup Diamond Head Trading lightly salted macadamia nuts
*When making banana bread in Hawai'i we love to switch it up a little bit by switching out standard walnuts for, of course, Hawaiian Macadamia Nuts brings that nutty flavor to a whole new tropical flavor level.
Kahuku Vanilla Caramel Sauce
CREAM together butter and Hula Girl Vanilla Sugar, STIR in the mashed bananas and beaten eggs. GRADUALLY incorporate the salt, baking soda, and all purpose flour. FOLD in the Macadamia Nuts.
POUR in a greased bread loaf and BAKE at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes.
Once cool slice into individual bread slices to your liking. Here is where the magic happens:
Use either a Panini Grill or any Grilling Pan. We used our grill pan on the stove and it worked just fine. Grease your pan or grill with non-sticking spray. Butter both sides of your Banana Macadamia Nut Bread and grill on each side until they are lightly toasted. Drizzle with Kahuku Farms Vanilla Caramel Sauce and top with chopped Macadamia Nuts.
